ALL are Welcome as THEY are
At Lutherans Nottingham, we affirm that all are welcome as they are.
We believe that the Church is, first and foremost, a gift of God’s grace — not a human achievement, but a living community formed and sustained by the love of Jesus Christ. Through this grace, there are no barriers that can separate people from God’s invitation to belong. Every person is created in the image of God and is therefore worthy of dignity, respect, and love.
We welcome people of every background, nationality, age, culture, identity, and life story. We welcome those who come with deep faith, as well as those who are questioning, searching, or uncertain. We welcome those who feel close to God, and those who feel distant. We welcome those who have long been part of the Church, and those encountering it for the very first time.
We recognise that every person carries a unique journey shaped by joy, struggle, doubt, and hope. In response, we seek to be a community where people are met with compassion rather than judgement, understanding rather than exclusion, and grace rather than expectation.
Rooted in the Lutheran understanding of sola gratia (grace alone) and sola fide (faith alone), we believe that God’s love is not earned but freely given through Jesus Christ. The Church, therefore, is called to be a living sign of that grace in the world — a place where forgiveness is real, hope is alive, and transformation is possible.
We also affirm that diversity is a reflection of God’s creative love. Differences in tradition, culture, theology, and experience do not weaken the Church; rather, they reveal the richness of God’s kingdom. We seek unity not in uniformity, but in shared faith in Christ and in our common calling to love God and neighbour.
In worship, fellowship, and service, we strive to create a space where people can encounter God authentically and grow in faith at their own pace. We do not claim perfection, but we commit ourselves to walking together in humility, honesty, and love.
